22 August 2011 (English and Portuguese)
Hey Everyone,
This week went by really fast; trying to get accustomed to all the changes again. I`m really liking being a Zone Leader now, it´s really cool to work with all of the awesome missionaries in our Zone. I have been really blessed, all of the missionaries in this Zone are really awesome and know how to work. My companion, Elder Cavalcanti, is really awesome, I am learning a ton from him. I`m still trying to get used to how everything works out, but it´s going good. We have a missionary in our Zone, Elder Menezes, who was an Assistant to the President and he is really great. He is one of the District Leaders here and has been helping us out a lot; it is awesome having a missionary with a lot of experience to help out the other missionaries in the Zone. He is training an Elder from Ogden, he´s still in the ``lost`` stage. :) It´s great to have Sisters in the Zone again; it´s been a year since I´ve worked with Sisters, they are great! So far, I am loving this place. The members here are amazing as well. We have a few here that are amazing in particular; a family that Elder Romo, my old Zone Leader baptized, they are amazing people. Also, Káthia, who has been helping us out a ton with everything. I`m really liking this ward; I´ve been blessed a lot on the mission.
The first day that I got here was a really great spiritual experience for me. I really miss my last area, it was a really awesome place, my favorite area so far I think....I don´t know, I can´t choose, who am I kidding? I got to the Bus Station where all of the missionaries were and the first person I saw was Elder Romo popping out of the crowd and running towards me. He´s such an awesome guy! He is my favorite Zone Leader that I ever had, I learned the most from him.The area that I am in now, Mutuá, is where he was trained, so he has a huge love for this place. I also saw Elder Merrell, Elder Rebouças, and a bunch of others there that were leaving. There were a ton of really great missionaries that left this last transfer, a lot of power-houses. Elder Romo came and visited Mutuá on his last day here in Brasil and went to the family that he baptized, that has recently passed through the temple and been sealed there. It was a really spiritual experience for all of us. We four went there; me, Elder Cavalcanti, Elder Romo, and Elder Rebouças. All Elders who have passed through here now, or as Elder Romo put it, the past (Romo and Rebouças) the Present (Cavalcanti) and the Future (Me) haha I thought that was funny. They were telling us their experience of when they passed through the temple and how much it blessed their lives, how difficult it was and all of the sacrifices that they made to go to the temple, but how in the end, they made it. It was an incredible experience that I will never forget. Elder Romo bore his testimony, saying that it was probably the last time he would bare his testimony as a special witness of Jesus Christ, being a missionary, and I got really emotional. I don´t want that day to come when I have to leave all of this. Elder Romo was really sad, which got me sad as well. But, I know that he did his absolute best here and I will do the same. No regrets.
I´m loving this area and the members. Trying to get used to everything again, but I´m used to that by now. I can´t believe how fast time is passing. I can´t believe that Emma and Cory are both home already and that Dylan is leaving this week; that is insane to me. I know that Dylan will love his mission. I`m excited to see all of the miracles that will happen this transfer and all of the things that I will learn. I need to appreciate the mission more while it´s here.
I´m excited to serve with this awesome Zone. We have two Americans being trained here in the Zone, so it is going to be a great transfer for everyone. Our Zone covers the cities of São Gonçalo, Barreto, and Niterói. Tell Dylan hi for me when he passes, ok? Tell him that I love him and that he is going to be an incredible missionary!! I will try to write an email for you to send him as well. Love you all, hope that everyone is doing great! That is cool that Katrina had her baby. It´s pretty crazy to tell you the truth. She got married after I left and now had a baby as well. Where has this time gone? Well, I´ll talk to you all next week. Love you all!

passado(Romo e Rebouças), no Presente (Cavalcanti) e no Futuro (eu) haha eu
Semarrependimento.
Estou amando essa área e os membros.Tentando me acostumar

Hey Guys,
Today I´m going crazy, I got some really cool but at the same time, sad news. President Lima called me this morning during companion study and asked,
But, at the same time, I´m really, really sad to have to leave this area, it is going to be really tough. The people here are incredible. We brought two guys to church yesterday that are amazing and they want to be baptized this Sunday, and now I´m not going to be able to be here to see it or to baptize them. They are really awesome. One of them is Paulinho´s brother and the other is an elect that found us on the street wanting to go to church. This area is full of miracles and I am going to be sad having to say goodbye to everyone today, it will be really tough. Luckily, I have already given my address away to mostly everyone. We just got a new amazing Ward Mission Leader, Edmar, and now I don´t even get to work with him, bummer!! This is one of the greatest areas that I have passed and I only get to stay here for one transfer, that is a bummer, but when we come back, I will bring you guys to meet these amazing people!! I love this place so much, I will never forget the amazing experiences that I have had here. It´s going to be sad to say goodbye to the people that I have baptized, I´m sure they aren´t going to like this. Are we going to come back and visit then next summer???? I really hope so!!!!! It would be cool for you guys to come down and pick me up, but if it would only be a few days, that would really stink. It would be a lot better to stay here for a few weeks. We wouldn´t have to pay for hotels or food because I already have the hookups with the members in all of my areas haha so that´s all taken care of. Oh man, I´m so sad that I am leaving this area. But I know that the Lord has called me to Niterói for a reason as well; it will be an amazing learning experience as Zone Leader, I´m really excited. Samuel will be really happy to hear that, I think he is still there. You will have to tell him, ok? Tell Bishop Thorup hi for me, ok? Also, tell President Jaussi hi for me. I love you all, I love the mission!! I can´t believe that time is going by this fast, I hate it. Thanks for the emails, love you guys!!

Today I´m going crazy, I got some really cool but at the same time, sad news. President Lima called me this morning during companion study and asked,
“Is this Elder McDonald?
I said, “yep.”
“ HEY ELDER MCDONALD, HOW ARE YOU?!”
“Hey President, I´m doing great how are you?!”
“ I´m doing awesome as well! Elder, I was just calling to let you know that I am calling you to serve in Niterói as.....”
Then the phone starting breaking up and I didn´t understand anything, really frustrating, then I told him to call me back. He called back and was like,
“Elder McDonald, I am calling you to tell you that I have called you to serve as a Zone Leader in Niterói, this area is needing a lot of miracles!”
OH MAN!! I was really excited and honored to have had President Lima personally call me and tell me, that was a really incredible experience for me. I am really excited because my companion is Elder Cavalcanti, he came out with me on the mission and he is a really awesome Elder, and my zone is incredible as well, I will finally have sisters in the zone again. Hey, pessoal,
sisters naminha zona novamente. Eu estou realmente animado!!!
algumas semanas.
Você vai terque dizer a
ele, ok? Diga Bispo Thorup oi para mim, ok? Também, diga-PresidenteJaussi oi
para mim. Eu amo todos vocês, eu amo a missão!

Braden's trip to the Brazilian Jungle |
Passeio de Braden na selva brasileira
Hey Everyone,
This week was great as well, the jungle was amazing last Monday, I took more than a hundred pictures I think. It was a really pretty place, we were there all day. There were a few waterfalls that we went to, they were incredible. I also saw and heard a few monkeys along the way, which was really cool. I´ll send some pictures, don´t worry. Yesterday was really great; I got to help ordain our recent converts to the Aaronic Priesthood, it was a really amazing experience. These people are amazing, I love it here. Yesterday, I bore my testimony as well and told them all that I told my Mom that I wasn´t ever coming home and that she got mad at me and they all laughed. I really love this ward, the people here are amazing! We have been working with our recent converts this last week and have taught with them as well. We brought Claúdio and Paulinho with us to teach some families and they loved it. Claúdio is already preparing to leave this next year and Paulinho, who we just baptized last week, is already excited to serve a mission as well. They are incredible examples for me.
We had interviews with President this Tuesday, it was really good. We had a good training by the Assistants about the Book of Mormon and my companion got a huge package from his girlfriend that was full of good stuff to eat, so that was great. This was a really fast week as well. Time just seems to get faster and faster, funny eh? I really hope that nothing happens with the Stake Presidency. At least before I get home. I want to get released by Presidente Jaussi, he´s an amazing man. I can´t believe that there is only one more week in this transfer, that is pretty ridiculous. We will see what happens.
I don´t have as much to write about today. Last week was just incredible. How are Grandpa and Grandma doing? How was it with Johnny and Kylene there. I have been thinking a little bit more about school. I`m not sure where I want to go yet. I`m thinking BYU or SLCC, but I´ll have to think more. It´s a sacrifice, trust me, because I hate thinking about it haha. Anyway, tell everybody hi for me. I love you guys. Hope you all have a great week!

mim. Eu amo vocês.Espero que todos tenham uma ótima semana!

Hey Guys,
This was absolutely the greatest week that I have ever had in my life!!!! We had FIVE baptisms, on Saturday and Sunday combined, it was incredible!!! I have never seen anything so amazing as this!! All of the people that we have brought to church in these last three weeks have been baptized!!! That is a MIRACLE!!!!! The Lord has been so merciful with us and I have never felt so much happiness in my entire life!! I haven´t done anything, the Lord has done everything!! I am so grateful that he has blessed us so much. This was the first family that I have baptized on my mission!! They are incredible!! The Dad, Paulo, is going to receive the Aaronic Priesthood this Sunday! He went by himself yesterday to the church to get interviewed by the Bishop. This family is amazing! He is so excited, as well as his wife and daughters! We also baptized two other young men and they are the coolest as well. I have never seen so many elect people in my life, they love us! One of them, Paulinho, is especially awesome. I look at him and just envision an amazing missionary here in a few years. I will send you all pictures when I get a better chance. I am so happy! I was in Barra Mansa as well yesterday helping the Zone Leaders get two more baptisms there, and then last night I was in Centenário helping the other Elders in my district with one more baptisms there! It was such an amazing weekend! Starting on Saturday and ending only Sunday night! I love BAPTISMS!!!! Last night, we went and visited this Family, Paulo, Marilene, Andreisa and Janaína, the family we baptized, and it is so different in their house now! The Spirit abides there now!!! It is incredible! I love the Spirit!! I love this Gospel!!!
When you were talking about home and school and stuff Mom, I got really sad. I don´t want to think about any of that. It makes me sad that it is already August. I really love these people here; I love everything about this area and my mission. It has changed me. I can´t believe how much the Lord has given me. It is incredible. He has blessed me more than I deserve. The Spirit is so strong here on the mission...I can´t describe how happy I feel. I think of the scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 18, about the worth of souls and the joy that we feel if we bring MANY souls unto Christ. I am starting to feel that joy. Every time that I am with these amazing people, I look at their faces and see how happy they are and how they have changed. I think a lot about my Patriarchal Blessing, how it says that the greatest joy I will have in my life is bearing my testimony about the Gospel on my mission and seeing the light of the Gospel come on in the faces of the people. I am living that right now. I am seeing that come to pass. I have absolutely no doubt that miracles exist. I have absolutely no doubt that this Gospel is true and that it is of Christ. I have absolutely no doubt that Christ lives and is our Savior, that through baptism all people can change! I have been living that for the last year and seven months. This mission is incredible! This is my mission!! I love every little detail of it!!!! Every sacrifice that I have had to pass through has been worth it!!!! My joy is full. I love you all so much! I love Jesus Christ. I love my Heavenly Father and I love this Gospel. I wish that you guys could see these people here, the lives that have been changed. You will all have to come and visit after the mission with me. I never want to forget any of this.
That is really cool Mom that Maria called you. They are an amazing family. They told me they were going up to visit. I really hope that you can meet up with them, that would be amazing!!! Give them some stuff to bring back to me and maybe I can give them some stuff to bring up to you guys. We will have to see. I really loved being there on Saturday, and I´m grateful that she said I am a good missionary, I´m really doing my best out here. I love this ward! I want to end my mission here!! I hope I can. I asked President in my email today, we will see. He should be coming this week because he wasn´t able to this last week. I love the mission!!!! I can´t get enough of it!!!! This has been the most incredible area that I have passed and has been the most amazing transfer that I have had. I know you hate hearing this, but I don´t want to come home. I just want to see you guys and that´s it. I want to stay here forever haha. I am trying to get the most out of my mission that I can. I know this is Christ´s only church. I know that the Priesthood is real! I´m grateful for my Patriarchal Blessing and all of the amazing promises that I have. I am so blessed, I need to appreciate what I have a lot more. Have an amazing week and I´ll talk to you all this next week.

Hey Guys,
Vou enviar-lhe todas as
triste. Eunão quero pensar em nada disso. Faz-me triste que já é agosto. Eu
Ela mudou-me.Eu não posso acreditar o quanto o Senhor me deu. É incrível. Ele
tem meabençoado mais do que mereço. O Espírito é tão forte aqui na missão...
Nãoposso descrever o quão feliz eu me sinto.
Estou começando a sentir aquela
alegria.
bom missionário, euestou realmente fazendo o meu melhor aqui. Eu amo essa ala!
Quero terminarminha missão aqui! Espero que eu possa. Perguntei ao Presidente
no meu e-mailhoje, vamos ver.
igreja deCristo. Eu sei que o sacerdócio é real! Sou grato por minha Bênção
Patriarcal etodas as promessas incríveis que eu tenho. Eu sou tão abençoada, eu
precisoapreciar o que eu tenho a mais. Tenam uma semana incrível e eu vou falar
comvocês todas estas semanas seguinte. Amor, Élder McDonald
